Report on water-based tape casting produced cell performance (D2.1)

This deliverable D2.1 reports the efforts in development of a water-based tape casting and co-casting process for fabrication of the industrially relevant size of 144 cm2 solid oxide cell half cells.

The produced half-cell comprises a ca. 10 µm CGO interdiffusion barrier layer, a ca. 10 µm dense 8YSZ electrolyte, a ca. 15 µm NiO-8YSZ active fuel electrode and a ca. 300 µm porous NiO-3YSZ fuel
electrode support.

The detailed manufacturing processing of slurry properties, particle size distribution, sintering property as well as the microstructure of fabricated cells are presented and the initial characterization of the cell performance and possible improvements are discussed. Lab-scale demonstration of the potential of water-based co-casting half cell production is also presented.
